Kynan Chenai in Line to Qualify for Trap Finals at 7th Asian Shotgun Shooting Championships


New Delhi, August 07, 2017: Trap shooter and Olympian KynanChenai, set himself up for Finals qualification in the Men’s Trap event at the 7th Asian Championship Shotgun, being held at Astana, Kazakhstan’s Target Shooting Club, when he shot 69 out of 75 on Monday to be placed third in the overall standings. Two more qualification rounds of 25 targets each will be played on Tuesday followed by the final rounds, where only the top six qualify. TalalAlrashidi of Kuwait currently heads the standings with a score of 71.

Among the two other Indians in the fray, Zoravar Singh Sandhu, who reached the final rounds of the ISSF World Cup stage in New Delhi in March, shot 65 to be placed 13th while BirendeepSodhi shot 56 to lie in 37th place. Zoravar will need an inspired performance on Tuesday to make it to the top six.

In the day’s only medal event, the Women’s Trap, India’s SeemaTomar registered the best finish among three Indians, finishing 9th eventually with a score of 63 out of 75. Shreyasi Singh with 55, placed 26th while RajeshwariKumari ended 27th shooting 52.

Tuesday has only the Men’s Trap event listed as the only medal event of the day. India have already won Two Gold medals in the championships when Ankur Mittal won Gold in the Men’s Double Trap and also helped India win the Team Gold in the event.
