Haryana’s Chinki Yadav Stars on Day One of XVII Kumar Surendra Singh Memorial Shooting Championships


New Delhi, July 27, 2017: Bhopal’sChinki Yadav, overcame the likes of former World number one Heena Sidhu to win the 25M Pistol Women’s event at the XVII Kumar Surendra Singh (KSS) Memorial Shooting Championship 2017 which got underway in the capital’s Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range. The youngster also won Bronze in the Junior Women’s section of the event to emerge the outright star on day one.

Chinki qualified fifth for the eight-woman final but held her nerves in the 10 five-shot series final to emerge triumphant with a score of 34. India international Rahi Sarnobat of Maharashtra won Silver with a score of 30 while Heena Sidhu won Bronze with 27.Rahi however won Gold in the Women’s Team event when together with compatriots Shreya Gawande and Saee  Godbole logged 1713 points overall to beat Haryana and the Heena Sidhu led ONGC to Silver and Bronze positions respectively.

Gauri Sheoran of Haryana clinched the Junior Women’s title getting the better of teammate Muskan 31-27 in the Final. Chinki shot 24 to settle for the Bronze.

In the Men’s 50M Pistol event, Punjab’s Tinjit Dhanota won Gold while teammate Arjun Singh Cheema won Silver and the experienced army marksman Gurpal Singh won the Bronze medalrespectively.

Arjun also won Silver in the Junior Men’s 50M Pistol where Junior India star Anmol Jain of Haryana won the Gold. Shubham Baliyan of Delhi won the Bronze. The eight-man final field had among others the likes of Olympians Jitu Rai and P.N.Prakash in the fray.

Arjun won his third Silver of the day in the Men’s 50M Pistol Team event, where Army Team led by JituRai, Gurpal Singh and Jai Singh won the Gold. The Navy team won Bronze.

Day two will see the Rifle events hold forth. The XVII KSS Memorial Shooting Championship 2017 concludes on August 1, 2017, following which the rifle and pistol shooters move on to the third and fourth selection trials of the year, which will help select the Indian team for the Commonwealth Shooting Championship scheduled for October-November this year in Australia.
