Heena Sidhu Crowned Women’s 25m Pistol National Champion


Sushil Galey Clinches Men’s 50m Rifle Prone Title
 
New Delhi, Dec 18, 2016: Olympian Heena Sidhu representing ONGC, beat the challenge of Haryana’s Muskan 8-2 in the Gold medal match to be crowned National Champion in the Women’s 25m Pistol event on day seven of the 60th National Shooting Championship Competitions (NSCC) being held at Pune’s Balewadi Sports Complex. Heena, who had qualified for the Final round in second position a day earlier, qualified for the Gold medal match overcoming a three-way tie, having shot 14 in the 25 shot Final round along with Indian internationals Rahi Sarnobat and Annu Raj Singh. Muskan qualified for the Gold medal match directly shooting 15. Rahi claimed the Bronze winning over Annu 8-0 in the Bronze medal match.

Muskan was not to be denied an individual Gold however, winning the Junior Women’s 25m Pistol Gold beating Madhya Pradesh’s Chinki Yadav to Silver. Gauri Sheoran of Haryan won Bronze.

In the other big event of the day, army man Sushil Ghaley sprang a surprise winning the Men’s 50m Rifle Prone title. In the eight-man Final boasting of such names as former Olympic Bronze medalist Gagan Narang and Olympian Chain Singh, Sushil shot 207.5 to clinch Gold. Navy’s Rahul Poonia won the Silver with a Finals score of 206.9 while army’s Chain claimed the Bronze with a score of 184.5. Chain Singh had earlier topped the qualifying stage with a score of 625.1, while Sushil had qualified third with a score of 620.8

Shooters of the Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU) continue to dominate the Shooting Nationals which wind up on December 26.
